Actors pick the winners

As opposed to awards like the Oscars, where voting members of the Academy can work in many departments of cinema, SAG voters are all actors. So winning a SAG Award is an esteemed acknowledgement from fellow members of the acting community. Awards go to individuals and ensembles.
There’s no host…
The show is just two hours long and there’s no host. So the focus is primarily on the performers.
… but there are presenters
The list of actors taking the stage includes stars from Stranger Things, Common, Rashida Jones, Brie Larson and nominees Naomie Harris, Casey Affleck, Mahershala Ali, Octavia Spencer and Viggo Mortensen.

Plenty of Oscar nominees are up for awards

The movies Manchester By the Sea, Moonlight, Hidden Figures, Fences and La La Land — which were all named as best picture nominees by The Academy this week — have multiple nominations. As for TV, Netflix and HBO dominate those categories with The Crown, Stranger Things, Game of Thrones and Westworld scoring three nominations each. See the full list of nominees here.

For our other key dates, please see our full calendar (below).
Lauded by critics for its style, simplicity and genuine warmth, the Screen Actors Guild Awards® presented by SAG-AFTRA, which made its debut in 1995, has become one of the industry’s most prized honors. The only televised awards shows to exclusively honor performers, it presents thirteen awards for acting in film and television in a fast moving two hour show which airs live on TNT and TBS. The awards focus on both individual performances as well as on the work of the entire ensemble of a drama series and comedy series, and the cast of a motion picture. These honors are fundamental to the spirit of the Screen Actors Guild Awards because they recognize what all actors know – that acting is a collaborative art.
